Hamilton in Hollywood

For decades, Hamilton has been synonymous with Hollywood. They’ve made a concerted effort to make sure their timepieces grace the silver screen. Hamilton watches have appeared in iconic films from Shanghai Express to Christopher Nolan's blockbusters like Interstellar and Oppenheimer. However, I think they have one upped themselves with their latest venture into a different entertainment medium.

Hamilton Steps Into the Game

In a testament to the evolving landscape of immersive storytelling, Hamilton has recently made a bold leap into the burgeoning entertainment medium of video games. Their latest release, the Hamilton American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition, is not just a watch, it’s an intricately crafted watch that blurs the line between horology and pop culture. It’s a piece that will intrigue both seasoned and new collectors, especially fans of Death Stranding 2.

This watch was created in close collaboration with legendary game creator Hideo Kojima and art director Yoji Shinkawa. This limited-edition timepiece is modeled on the in-game watch worn by the character Neil in DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH. The process of designing the watch took over two years, while the game was in production. This was done to ensure that it would not only function as a real watch, but also accurately represent the techno-apocalyptic world of Death Stranding.

Seven Crystals and a Sci-Fi Makeover

Visually, the Death Stranding 2 Boulton is unlike anything else in Hamilton's catalog. It takes the tonneau shape of the 1941 Boulton and blasts it centuries ahead into a sci-fi future. The result is something…strange. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t seen anything like it.

The watch features a black PVD-treated titanium case with sleek, arching lines, reflecting the game's environment. It also pays homage to Shinkawa’s signature anime-like inspired costumes, spacesuits, and gadgetry found in the game. It’s a true representation of the games narrative elements. The black dial features multiple finishes, with grey indicators contrasted by a striking orange lacquered seconds hand. The open case back reveals the Hamilton's automatic H-10 caliber movement, decorated with a special "tar finishing" reminiscent of the game's mysterious hazards.

However, the most striking feature is seven sapphire crystals on the front of the watch. That’s right! SEVEN SAPPHIRE CRYSTALS! One is the primary viewing window and two columns of three smaller windows on each side. This creates a unique, almost arena-like presence.

Not Your Average Watch

Obviously, this watch is not for everyone. Not everyone wants to look at their wrist and see a miniature version of The Louvre. Also, the seven sapphire crystals make legibility at certain angles challenging. In addition, the watch doesn’t have any lume, which was a curious choice by Hamilton.

This is a piece overtly designed for the Death Stranding fanbase and gamers. It’s limited to 2,000 pieces, each individually numbered on the case back, and presented in collectible packaging inspired by the game's narrative. Historically, niche pop culture tie-ins like the Seiko Metal Gear Solid watch have appreciated significantly over time, perhaps this Boulton could follow a similar trajectory.

The Hamilton Boulton Death Stranding 2 Boulton is priced at $1,595. For the design and engineering involved, it represents a reasonably affordable statement piece. While its bold design and substantial wrist presence might not appeal to every watch buyer, its technical prowess, unique aesthetic, and deep connection to a globally acclaimed video game make it a truly compelling proposition, particularly for fans of Death Stranding. If you're a watch collector looking for something genuinely unique, or a gamer eager to manifest your passion on your wrist, this limited edition is certainly worth a closer look when it becomes available on June 26, 2025.
